Here to Stay

Ok, so I had a bit of a set back this year. You guys might not remember this, but I have had some health issues in the past. Unfortunately in the last few months they have come back have really gotten me down. As well as that I have been having some family issues, which caused a long spell of anxiety attacks and upset.

However, I am much better now, with the help of my boyfriend and people around me and tablets for my pains I have finally settled down and gotten back into a routine.

One part of my routine which I seriously missed was you. My Blog, and my direct link to the people out there.

I have also missed writing hugely.

In the next few months I am planning on applying for a Creative Writing Masters, which I need a portfolio for! For this I obviously need to write!

So I will be taking to writing again! I have a distopian novel in mind, which will be my main focus for the next 5 weeks.

I will be using this Blog to record my writing as that is what helped me to finish the first draft of my first ever fantasy novel!

However, I also have a new Blog which I will use for actual articles and general vents and information. You can all definitely check it out, as I will be posting on both Blogs regularly!

I hope you’re all doing well, I know ye probably don’t remember me, but I sure as hell remember ye! Happy Christmas to you all!!

Someone, PLEASE explain to me…

Would someone out there please please PLEASE be kind enough to tell me WHY this particular Blog post I wrote over 8 months ago gets hits every day?
I’m pretty sure it is just a rambly post.
People don’t really search showers that much…. Do they?

Laptop Blues

I have left my laptop in my apartment in Dublin, over an hour’s drive away and 10.50 on a bus. I’m back in Carlow and although Mr. Cooke was good enough to give me his iPad to write on, I have no charger for it so the only chance I will have to go online will be when one of my brothers feel nice enough to give me their laptop, so don’t expect any posts for a while. I am currently posting secretly… My brother must NEVER find out.

So, I was in Dublin for a while, with the pure purpose in a game’s night… We are huge nerds when it comes to games… and in general really.. The night was a success, but meant that I couldn’t write for a few days.

However last night I started a new novel idea which I really haven’t thought about much. It’s fantasy (of course) and I am absolutely in love with where it starts. And so this will be my BIG project from now on, until I hate it and need to cry to you all about it and kick myself in the ass to get back to it.

Expect that, it will happen.

But I’m hoping this will be a good story… We’ll see anyway. But as I am writing on an app I have no way of knowing how many words I’ve written, unless I count them manually, which ain’t gonna happen. I do not have the patience, nor the battery to bother!

So, until my next laptop robbery, good bye! Hopefully I’ll have kept my writing going!!

Libraries and Obstacles

Soooo today was a pretty hectic day. When I woke up my Mother informed me that I had an hour and a half to eat, have a shower, get both myself and my younger brother ready and have loads of pictures from a cousin’s wedding recently printed off. I was stumped, but managed to get everything done in time for when she came back from a walk with our dog, Shaggy.

Once we dropped my brother off at his friends house and after a two hour chat with his Mom, we finally made it to the library where I needed to relight my membership candle and rejoin, then borrow 6 books- all which need to be read before college starts on the 9th of September… Well one of those books is just for my own personal reading and not really for college… But my Mom doesn’t need to know that!

There were many obstacles between then and a party I had to go to for my cousin’s two year old, and finally I have just arrived home. I am not letting this get in between me and my writing though. I have just printed off the first draft of my short story and will be reading over it and making changes to it while I do, then the rewrite tomorrow.

After tomorrow I will have a better idea of how much longer it will take me to finish this short story and when will be an appropriate time to leave it for a new project, then come back to.

I think I know what my next writing project will be, but we’ll see how it goes. I’ll be writing a lot of book reviews this year it seems as I will be reading so much, but I sure you all won’t mind- hell they’re on college courses so they gotta be good!

I’ll check in again tomorrow and let you all know how the editing goes! Goodnight all!

And I am Back!

I can’t believe it, but on my first day back at writing after a summer long break I have reached a very good word count! I am incredibly happy with what I have written today and can’t wait to go back to it tomorrow to look at how I did and how I can change it!

As you may know I was writing a short story that’s been on my mind for some time now. Though I didn’t realise just how short my story was going to be, I’m thrilled that I’ve finally taken to writing it down!

Today my goal was 2,000 words as it always has been, and I managed to reach

ss 1 day 1

I know I’m a bit off the 2,000 mark, but I honestly don’t mind at all! I am just so happy to have written when I was so sure I wouldn’t be ab;e to write anything at all when I got down to it.

As usual there was an awful lot of procrastination and desperate attempts to throw myself down the stairs to get out of starting back into it, but now that I have I am thrilled!

I would post my short story here, but as I’m not sure about how strict the college is on what you do and don’t use for your portfolio and what counts as being published I’m not going to take that chance. Though I will try to put some other short stories and things up as I decide that they are not good enough for my portfolio, and you guys can all slate the bajaysus out of them and help me to become a better writer!

However, now I stand a new challenge; as my short story seems to be taking considerably less time than I had originally thought, I need to decide on what novel I want to work on next.

I have a few ideas in mind, one werewolf, one vampire, one mythical and one dystopian. Each of these is as little planned out as the other, I would seriously appreciate any help, PLEASE comment on what you think I should write, I would really love to hear what you all think! Thank you!!

Home and Damn Excited

While on holiday I got to have a proper chat with Mr. Cooke about where I am in the writing mind set at the moment. The answer is very unclear as I have no idea what novel I want to write. There are a few things going around in my head, making it very difficult to narrow down my decision.

Therefore I am starting with a short story that has been on my mind for quite a few weeks now. And it being a short story it should take no more than a week or two to get it exactly right. And with this one the writing has to be sneaky, descriptive and will be really fun and interesting to phrase. Short stories depend on the phrasing and how you depict the characters, and then how they actually are. Right?

I’m pretty sure that’s a good way to start with the writing of my short story, but we’ll have to see as I haven’t written a short story in a few years- not since my Leaving Certificate exams. And that was two years ago at least now.

I think once I have something finished, something¬†I have written in front of me, it will give me incentive to start back at my writing and will help with the writer’s block I seem to have. I know they say ‘just write when you have writer’s block’, but what do you do when you have so many things you want to write that you can’t start any of them?

Well, this is my home-made antidote to writer’s block: short stories. Having something small, definite and finished will be a huge achievement when writing has become so difficult. I’ll let you all know how it goes tomorrow, I’m hoping for my past usual of 2,000 words a day at least from now onwards. We will see how that goes….

But lets have faith for now and hope that I stick to this… No… I KNOW I can stick to this daily goal. As I mentioned before I need to have a good portfolio for the Masters in Creative Writing I plan on getting. The portfolio building begins today, sure this may only be a small foundation, but at least it’s a start!

Wish me luck!

Ideas and Blocks

For a long time now I have been in between minds on at least 4 different projects that I want to write. Today, I am just as confused as I have been all summer. I started my time editing the first draft of the first book I have ever finished, but I just couldn’t get into it. It clearly wasn’t the right time to start editing.

I have about three novel ideas and one short story which I really want to write, but I’m still unsure about what to do! I am so confused. Thankfully I am going on holiday with Mr. Cooke and his family on Saturday for a week. As my boyfriend has already decided on what he’ll be writing, he has promised to let me rant about all my ideas and help me figure out what it is I want to write.

The best part is that we will be starting back at writing when we come back from holiday, and starting our daily word count competition again. This really helps the two of us to keep writing, no matter what mood we’re in. Especially as we are both such sore losers!

I’m sure by the end of next week I’ll have a super mega idea about where I’m going with my writing, and even if I don’t I’ll have to sit down and start writing!

This post is also one just to let you all know why I’ve disappeared for a week from Saturday onward!
